Item A
A sociologist is planning research into decision making in contemporary families. She wants to find out who makes decisions about spending, childcare, housework and leisure activities in couples living together. She is interested in whether couples describe their relationships as equal, whether one partner has more control over money, and whether decisions are made differently in dual-career families.
The sociologist decides to use written questionnaires. The questionnaires will be given to a large sample of adults in different households. Most questions will be closed questions, such as “Who usually makes decisions about large purchases?” Respondents will choose from options such as “mainly me”, “mainly my partner”, “both equally” or “someone else”.
